Chandler Fall Calendar Moves Uptown This October

For the last few Octobers, the shape of a Chandler fall weekend was easy to predict. You parked in one of the Washington Street garages, walked to Dr. A.J. Chandler Park for whatever the city or the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership had set up that day, and ended the night two minutes away on a Boston Street patio. One park, one walk, one district.

That default breaks this year. Visit Chandler's fall listing has Rocktoberfest returning at a new Uptown Chandler location for 2026, running three days at SanTan Gardens rather than two days in the downtown park. The single biggest beer festival on the city's fall calendar is leaving the historic square, and it is not the only thing shifting. Chandler is now programming its cool season across three separate districts, and the practical work for residents this fall is knowing which one you are driving to.

The Festival That Left The Park

Rocktoberfest is only one year old. SanTan Brewing Company and Huss Brewing Co. launched it in 2025 as a two-day replacement for SanTan's long-running Oktoberfest, staged at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park on Friday, October 3 from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, October 4. The lineup leaned on tribute acts including The Ultimate Bon Jovi, Red Hot Cholo Peppers and Lies and Roses, with wiener dog races, keg stacking and a stein-holding contest between sets. SanTan co-owner Jamie Hoffman described the goal at the time as having "taken everything that people loved about our previous Oktoberfest and given it a fresh, new vibe."

The 2026 edition keeps the format and moves the address. Visit Chandler lists three days of craft beer, live music and competitions at SanTan Gardens, with SanTan Brewing pouring alongside cocktails from SanTan Distilling and German fare.

One caution before you put it on a calendar. Visit Chandler's dedicated Rocktoberfest page still says 2026 dates have not been announced, while third-party festival calendars are already showing an October 2 through 4 weekend. Treat early October as the window, and confirm the dates and ticket details with SanTan directly before you buy.

Here is the part worth understanding. SanTan Gardens sits in the Uptown Chandler corridor, the stretch of Arizona Avenue north of the historic square that the city treats as an infill and adaptive reuse district for employers rather than a walkable dining strip. Moving a three-day festival there means the post-festival dinner walk downtown stops happening by accident. If you want a table at a downtown restaurant that weekend, you are now making a second trip, not a hundred-yard stroll.

It also solves a quiet scheduling problem. The 2025 festival occupied Dr. A.J. Chandler Park across a Friday and a Saturday, and event listings that year disagreed about whether it sat on the east or west side of Arizona Avenue. The west lawn is where the Saturday farmers market sets up. Clearing the festival out of that park in early October hands the market back its own opening weekend of the cool season.

The Two-Hour Change Nobody Puts On A Flyer

The most useful date on this entire list is not a festival. It is a schedule change.

The Downtown Chandler Summer Market runs Saturdays from 7 to 11 a.m., June through September, at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park West. In October, the market shifts to its cool-season hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and holds them through June. Same vendors, same lawn, two hours later.

That two-hour slide is the actual start of fall in this part of Chandler, and it changes who benefits from it. A 7 a.m. market is a coffee-and-go errand you finish before the heat. A 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. market ends at lunch, in a district where the restaurants are largely owner-operated and within a few blocks of the park. October is the first Saturday of the year where the market hands downtown a lunch rush instead of a sunrise crowd. If you have only ever shopped the summer version, the cool-season market is a different event with the same name.

The Fall Weekend Map

Chandler's city calendar and Visit Chandler's fall listing between them account for most of the season. What stands out is how few of these land in the same place.

Add the events that sit outside city hall's list: the Chandler Center for the Arts hosts its 27th Annual Mariachi and Folklórico Festival with C.A.L.L.E de Arizona folklórico dancers and a Día de Muertos tribute, the #AZ48 Chandler Half Marathon, 10K and 5K runs a flat route through downtown, and Rawhide takes both Sumo + Sushi Phoenix, with sushi from Shimogamo, and the third year of the Indian Frybread & Arts Festival. Uptown, downtown, South Chandler, Tumbleweed Park, Rawhide. Five destinations, one season.

Halloween Is On A Friday, And It Isn't The 31st

Worth a note for anyone planning around kids. In 2025, the city's Halloween Spooktacular ran on Friday, October 31 at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park Stage Plaza. In 2026, Halloween falls on a Saturday, and the city has scheduled Spooktacular for Friday, October 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

That is a deliberate separation, and it gives you both nights instead of forcing a choice. Admission is free. The costume parade runs twice, at 6:15 and 7:30 p.m., and the Trunk-or-Treat stations carry more than 300 pounds of candy. Parking for the Stage Plaza at 178 E. Commonwealth Ave. is the same set of garages the city has pointed to for years: City Hall at Chicago and Washington, the Johnathan at Buffalo and Washington, the Alexander at Boston and Washington.

Where You Actually End Up Before Or After

The dining math around these events changed more in the last five months than it did in the previous five years, and most of it happened outside the historic square.

Seafood City opened July 30, 2026 at Chandler Fashion Center, 3111 W. Chandler Blvd. At 66,000 square feet it is the chain's 39th store and its largest in North America, built inside the old Sears box. The piece that matters for a Friday night is the roughly 10,947-square-foot food hall, with seven counters operating under one roof: Grill City, Slurp Alley, Sizzle, Crispy Town, Bakers Avenue, Yelo Yelo and Kakanin Korner. The seafood department runs live tanks with clean-and-cook service. Local coverage of the July 30 grand opening noted customers lining up the night before.

That opening sits on top of construction Macerich started in January 2026 on the mall's south side near the Harkins Theatres. The plan calls for an event lawn built for concerts and community gatherings, an interactive splash pad that becomes an illuminated water feature at night, fire pits, shade structures and a new walkway so people parked on the east side reach the courtyard faster. Stores stay open through the work. The bigger names are further out: Johnny Rockets, Popeyes and Sip Fresh joined the food court this summer, J.Crew Factory opened in May, Din Tai Fung is slated for 2027 and Arizona's first Wagyu House for fall 2027.

Downtown has its own pipeline. George & Gather has been running an all-day scratch kitchen at 336 S. Washington St. since March 2025, Maple House sits at Boston and California, and Insomnia Cookies is on Arizona Avenue. The city's downtown development page lists Aristocrat Coffee Roasters and Tap N Taco as confirmed near-term openings rather than rumors.

South Chandler is filling in too. The city's development roundup has Trader Joe's under construction at Ocotillo Road and Arizona Avenue, The Mexicano doing tenant improvements at the Shoppes at Chandler Fashion Center with a fall opening expected, and Perfect Pear Bistro coming to Chandler Festival.

The Read For People Who Live Here

Three things follow from all of this, and none of them show up on a listing page:

• Chandler's cool season is no longer a downtown season. It is an Uptown, downtown, Fashion Center and Tumbleweed Park season, and the driving pattern for a Chandler household in October looks different than it did last year.
• The events that stayed downtown are the family ones. Spooktacular, Diwali, Santa's House and the Saturday market all held their ground in the historic square. The festival that moved is the one that needed more room.
• Investment is following the same spread. A landlord committing to an event lawn and a splash pad on the south side of a mall, and a grocer building its largest North American store inside a dead anchor box, are both bets on foot traffic years out, not this quarter.
